Today, she’s going to share a little bit of her experience with us…

FR:  How did you feel about your level of fitness, body shape, and/or energy levels before you started training at Chanhassen Fitness Revolution?

AF:  I  just had my son in April 2012, so I was in the worse shape of my life.  My body was definitely not my own and it really impacted my self-esteem & my energy level.  I was sluggish, especially when it came to exercise; I wasn’t eating properly and used the baby excuse as a crutch for several months.  I felt “frumpy” when we would dress up to go out with friends as my selection of clothes was extremely limited – I was still in some maternity clothes.

I had horrible joint pain from the extreme amount of weight that I had gained while pregnant.  I wasn’t one of those women who thought “I can eat for two” when I got pregnant – I just gained a ton of fluid and had horrible swelling.  I continually tried to get back into some type of exercise routine after I had the baby – I started to run, but due to the joint pain, I couldn’t even make it a full mile without hurting so bad…so, I quit.

FR:  What fears/reservations did you have about joining Chanhassen Fitness Revolution?

AF:  I really didn’t have any fears or reservations – I knew from reading the FR website, that this is what needed to help get me back on track as I don’t like the big gyms in the area, but I also didn’t want a 24 hour come whenever place.  There is nothing wrong with either of those choices, but for me, I like the smaller group approach and knowing that the same people will be there week after week to help encourage and get fit along with me.

FR:  What programs have you tried in the past that didn’t work the way you wanted?  Why didn’t they work?

I was a member of [big box gym] for years.  While it’s a great gym, I just felt like another face in the crowd.  They’ve gotten so big that unless you go at really off times, you are always waiting for equipment, popular classes are overcrowded, and parking is a nightmare.  I enjoyed some of the programs there, but outside of that, I hated the environment and found that I just wouldn’t go.

FR:  What specifically did Chanhassen Fitness Revolution help you with?

Getting back on a fitness schedule that I actually enjoyed!  I don’t like the same thing over and over because that gets boring.  I loved that every M,W,F we did a different workout, and I loved how I felt when I would walk out the door, despite the EARLY workout time. [FR NOTE:  We have other times as well.  ;-b]

FR:  What is your favorite part or thing about Chanhassen Fitness Revolution?

I love that it’s not an intimidating environment.  There are just everyday people there working out – folks who struggle with fitness and nutrition just like me!  Justin and Janell are just like all of us – they’ve had their own challenges, and they can truly relate.  Plus Badger is pretty darn cute so to get to see his shining little face at 5:45 am helps! icon wink Chanhassen Boot Camp 2012 Back to School Transformation Challenge Champion

FR:  How has being a part of Chanhassen Fitness Revolution improved your life?

I have lost weight and toned up for sure, and this has helped with the joint pain I was dealing with from all the baby weight.  Most mornings I couldn’t get out of bed without having horrible pain in my feet, ankles, knees and arms, but after a few weeks, I noticed that the pain was less and less.  Today, I can easily get out of bed and start the day with little to no pain!

I can also fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes and some of those are even too big so I was able to buy a size smaller in my jeans!

Not only for the weight loss, I know that I have made changes to my diet and I am healthier overall.  While in the past, I was exercising to lose weight, now after having my son, I am exercising to be healthy.  I want to be able to run and play with him and not be tired.  I want teach him smart ways to eat and be fit to give him the best chance at a healthy life.

FR:  What is your next fitness goal and how will you achieve it?

To continue/maintain on the path I am on – I want to maintain a healthier overall lifestyle with both a fitness regime and a nutrition program.  Each day is a challenge to make the right choice, but when I see how far I’ve come, I know I do not want to go back to where I was.  I only want to move forward.  In the back of my head, I still would like to lose 10 pounds and go down another size in pants, but I don’t want to be hung up on a number, so my focus will be to feel good about myself.

FR:  Is there anything else that you would like to share about your experience at Chanhassen Fitness Revolution that may help someone else make the decision to begin a health & fitness program with us?

You need to go into any fitness and nutrition program willing to make lifestyle changes.  There are no get fit quick options out there – no pill, drink or surgery will combat that for you – it’s you that has to do the work and be willing to change your mindset.  If you aren’t willing to put in 100% effort, then this will be just another program you tried and failed at.

Justin and Janell give you all the tools you need to lead a healthy life through the classes, the e-mails, the website and various events.  They truly care about everyone and want to help you to succeed in whatever your fitness goals may be!
